Inky Darkness Creeping into Everything.[edit]
On the PS3, I noticed that all the items in the temple were dark, as though the darkness had coated them. I thought this was a cool effect, until it spread to other stuff in my inventory and finally to the objects shown during the loading screens. Quitting to the game start menu fixed the problem. I don't know if this counts as a bug, but I wanted to see if anyone else had this happen. Svenja Silver-Blood (talk) 00:46, 1 October 2012 (GMT)
Alteration hack/bug[edit]
Stand in the beam that damages magicka with a alteration armor spell on, and it will increase the skill. it does this all the way to 100, did it on a PC in 1.8 patch. — Unsigned comment by 24.75.113.70 (talk) at 18:03 on 30 November 2012
PRID for Meridia's Beacon?[edit]
I seem to have somehow lost the beacon. I went up to th shrine to place it and nothing happened. So looking through my inventory I can't find Meridia's Beacon. I can't find the prid only the ref number does that mean I can use additem? I don't want to make a copy of the beacon unless it's a last resort. King Mango (talk) 00:52, 7 December 2012 (GMT)
- I got adventurous and decided to try additem which didn't cause any problemKing Mango (talk) 02:22, 7 December 2012 (GMT)
Appearing in Solstheim[edit]
Alrighty guys! I just found Meridia's Beacon in a random chest on Solstheim, I just thought I would add this here so somebody could use the information properly. It was a completely random chest that I found on the side of the mountain just above Snowclad RuinsChronic (talk) 23:44, 12 December 2012 (GMT)
- In my first playthrough the beacon appeared in Bleak Falls Temple in a chest after defeating the boss there. I thought it was a part of the Dragon Claw quest. If I remember well, it was among the first quest I did, not much before that. So this quest can be triggered at the very beginning of the game too. — Unsigned comment by 86.101.32.61 (talk) at 18:01 on 28 January 2013
- Yes, it may appear in any boss chest at any time. Vely 19:42, 28 January 2013 (GMT)
Dawn is Breaking[edit]
This section of the walkthrough mentions there is nothing on the first floor after re-entering the temple from the boss-loot chest. This is not true. I always find a ring in the southwest corner on a wooden plate on a table against the wall to the right of the desecrated corpse which also has the usual amount of gold for this quest.
Also after activating the pedastal that opens the first door of this room at the top of the eastern stairs, there is a hallway that leads to a room. In this room is door with a desecrated corpse in front of it. This door is trapped with spikes that shoot up out of the ground. It can be opened safely if you are far enough away.
The lever in the hallway with the trip-wire is not clear to me what it does. I have played through without throwing it and have not been able to detect any difference in the level.King Mango (talk) 19:37, 15 January 2013 (GMT)
- The reason for the 'nothing on the first floor' is that we generally never mention minor loot and stuff like that (unless it makes the text flow better) in quest walkthroughs - all of these details will go on the place pages later on. As for the handle - I honestly can't remember. However, if you find any mistakes in the walkthrough, feel more than free to correct them. --Krusty (talk) 21:24, 15 January 2013 (GMT)
- The door trapped with spikes can be disarmed through the use of the trap trigger on the bottom right of the door. It was master for me. Jazstar (talk) 22:02, 2 June 2013 (GMT)
- 'Trapped' doors (and chests) usually can be disarmed, otherwise not the door (or chest) itself would be trapped.
- This lever didn't have any effect for me, too. So what's it's purpose? -- CompleCCity (talk) 18:34, 14 April 2014 (GMT)

Quest locked beacon locations?[edit]
'Sometimes speaking to Meridia will not show a map marker for the beacon. This is because the beacon is in an area you do not have access to yet, such as Dawnstar Sanctuary or the Katariah. The beacon still exists and finding it will advance the quest'Is there a list of all quest locked locations that the beacon can appear in? Because in my current game it doesn't show me where it is and I don't want to spend time doing quests that might not contain the beacon. Note: Playing on Xbox and have all DLC's. --ZinnLav (talk) 06:54, 5 August 2013 (GMT)
- If you have all the updated patches, the Katariah and Dawnstar Sanctuary should no longer be options. If you have Dragonborn, I would recommend traveling to Solstheim (you can go there without starting the main DB quest by traveling to the Northern Maiden ship at the Windhelm docks and paying for passage). With Dragonborn installed, if you're supposed to have a map marker for a quest, and it isn't appearing, that is often the reason why. Solstheim quest targets won't show on your map while you're in Skyrim. — ABCface◥ 07:02, 5 August 2013 (GMT)
- Currently on Solstheim and there isn't a map marker pointing me anywhere. I also have the most recent game patch. --ZinnLav (talk) 07:17, 5 August 2013 (GMT)
Two Dawnbreakers[edit]
The article for Dawnbreaker has a bug entry stating that you can get two Dawnbreakers, and linking to the Bugs section of this article. However, there is no mention of this in the article, just a talk page topic that has been archived. Is it still possible to get a second Dawnbreaker by using an AoE spell? If so, it should be added (back?) to the Bugs section. --XyzzyTalk 22:12, 30 August 2013 (GMT)
- This bug was listed at Skyrim:Glitches. I moved it back here. I searched the Official Patch list and the USKP list, but couldn't find mention that this had been fixed. Does anybody know if it was? --XyzzyTalk 15:15, 20 October 2013 (GMT)
- Hm, does it really have to be during the fight? Or can you knock it out afterward? Xolroc (talk) 15:16, 20 October 2013 (GMT)
- Good question. I worded it that way because that is the most likely way for this glitch to occur, but it's possible that you could do it after the battle. Probably worth testing. --XyzzyTalk 15:20, 20 October 2013 (GMT)
- I can confirm that it did not work for me when I tried it a while ago; see this conversation. This attempt was after the fight was over. Xolroc (talk) 15:23, 20 October 2013 (GMT)
- Yeah I saw that and was wondering the same thing. Can you reload and try it again during the fight? I'm also wondering if it's one of your spells that duplicates it or Malkoran's, or even the Destruction staff that he has been reported to use. --XyzzyTalk 15:33, 20 October 2013 (GMT)
- I am not sure whether I still have the save; I stopped playing Skyrim on xbox after getting the ES anthology, so my roommate who's been playing it since may have cleared out old saves. I'll check when I do the quest on pc though! Xolroc (talk) 15:35, 20 October 2013 (GMT)
- I´m getting a second Dawnbreaker by simply shouting Malkoran from outside his room with a single Arrow. No AoE involved. 84.188.190.138 17:13, 8 June 2017 (UTC)Shabdez
- Yes. I didn't know anything about this quest when I went in. I typically use a Soul Trap bow, and it especially pays off here. Each of the corrupted shades fills up to a Grand soul gem (the level I got), so bring around a dozen empties. I also never entered the room with Malkoran, just stood on the stairs. All of the corrupted shades and Malkoran can be easily and quickly taken down from there. There is a (second) Dawnbreaker lying on the raised floor area, presumably the effect of the Soul Trap bow is enough to cause that.104.247.247.102 20:40, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Meridia's Beacon locations[edit]
While there are reports of it being found all over the place, in all three of my playthroughs (and the one of my roommate), it's been in the chest behind Clavicus Vile's shrine. These were multiple playthroughs on different xboxes and two different Skyrim disks.

Ray of Light[edit]
It's mentioned here on the talk page and under bugs, both related to Alteration.
I didn't have any alteration spell active, but standing in the beam did not only drain my magicka, but also did hurt me. I am a vampire. Could the drain of vitality be connected to my undead status? Or does it happen to everyone?
If that's the case and somebody not undead can confirm the vitality and magicka drain, then we should add this under notes, I think. -- CompleCCity (talk) 18:40, 14 April 2014 (GMT)

Quest is broken with latest patch on Xbox[edit]
I got the beacon, then I placed it on it's pedestal, then I float up in the sky and I talk to Meridia, then it breaks by fading my screen to white and then I smash into the ground and die every time, is there a fix for this or am I just going to have to live without the Dawnbreaker sword? - Have you tried the various suggestions for this problem listed in the Bugs section of the article? – Robin Hood(talk) 21:23, 8 August 2014 (GMT)
- This is often caused by carrying too much weight. Try dropping a few things before taking the sword. 'Does not work'
- Walk towards Meridia as soon as she has lifted you into the sky, thereby dropping onto the area at the base of the statue instead of a longer drop further back. 'Does not work'
- Skip through the dialogue with her and you will be able to adjust your position before the fall begins. You need to land on the upper area of her pedestal. 'Does not work'
- Try to fall on a slanted surface or summoned creature to reset speed, 'Does not work'
- Try a mount horse or dragon before being sucked up into the sky. 'Does not work'
- Try to use Slow Time or Become Ethereal shouts before being sucked up into the sky. 'Does not work' Wrath425 (talk) 02:51, 9 August 2014 (GMT)

Chest missing from Dawnstar Sanctuary[edit]
Hi, I'm having an issue with the XBox 360 edition of Skyrim. I have a quest marker to find Meridia's Beacon, but it's pointing to a torture rack in the Dawnstar Sanctuary, where there used to be a chest, but the chest is no longer there because of the renovations. Is there anything I can do to get Meridia's Beacon and continue the quest without going back to an older save or transferring my save to the PC version to use console commands? The Only Zac (talk) 19:45, 25 April 2015 (GMT)
Trick for beating Malkoran[edit]
I don't know if this happened to anyone else, but I'm going to detail the steps I took to beat Malkoran and his shade EXTREMELY easily. I'm pretty sure that the Beacon is forced into the chest behind the Shrine of Clausius Vile if you have the quest 'Daedra's Best Friend' active. A lot of people have reported finding it there during this quest. One of the best perks of the quest is you get Barbas as a follower. As a dog, he does a reasonable amount of damage to your enemies, and the plus side is that he's IMMORTAL. So here's what I did:
-Approach the door to where Malkoran and his 4 shades are just standing around.
-While undetected, shoot Malkoran with an arrow, and then let Barbas block the door. Barbas will aggro on the shades and Malkoran, leaving you free to pelt Malkoran with arrows out of the range of his ice spell.
-Once the shades are dead, Barbas will chase Malkoran around the room, and you can enter safely and kill both him and his shade from a distance.
I took no damage from this, and still managed to capture every single soul in the room with my bow. If someone else can repeat this, tell me, but I honestly think this is the best way to defeat him. 99.121.83.148 14:58, 10 May 2015 (GMT)
Found it twice in one game[edit]
I'd found it earlier, but never did the quest. I just finished a dungeon crawl and found the beacon in the boss chest. Apparently it'd been removed from my inventory at some point, because it didn't trigger the 'A new hand touches the Beacon..' dialogue. Instead Meridia said, 'Do you prefer headlessness to my luminous glory? Go!' followed by 'Take my beacon to the mount above Kilkreath.' None of my mods affect Daedric quests except the Unofficial Patch. I've seen a few mentions of this happening elsewhere on the internet, but nothing here, nor any mention of the additional dialogue. Has anyone else encountered this? 107.135.158.149 13:13, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
- I've never heard of this but the wording of the USKP's fix makes it sound like you can find the beacon after picking up the quest. There is a bunch of unused dialogue related to picking up the beacon, including the one you heard (though its heedlessness). I think this needs investigation as I can't see why the other dialogue never seems to appear despite having the same conditions as the one that does and is part of the same group of dialogue. Skyrim Meridia's Beacon Location
AcquisitionEdit
Dawnbreaker is a Daedric artifact given as a gift by the Daedric PrinceMeridia upon completion of the quest 'The Break of Dawn.'
EnchantmentEdit
Dawnbreaker bears a unique enchantment called 'Meridia's Retribution' that works similar to soul trap in that each hit infects the target for ten seconds. If the target is killed within that time, it may explode. Over the course of ten seconds, the chance to trigger an explosion is
1 - (.75 ^ x)
, where x is the number of strikes. In other words, the more times the target is hit, the more likely the explosion is to happen. The explosion only happens if the target is undead. It is not actually necessary for the killing blow that triggers the explosion to be dealt with Dawnbreaker. A second enchantment deals 10 to 15 points of fire damage with each hit. The fire damage depends on the Augmented Flames perk, dealing 12 points of damage for the first rank and 15 points for the second. Ahzidal's MaskDR can further increase the fire damage to 17.This blast will damage any nearby undead, including turning undead followers such as Serana and dead thralls, depending on level, and can cause any survivors to flee for a short period of time. Undead killed in the blast will crumble into ash piles. The fiery explosion has the same visual effect and functions as the Bane of the Undead spell, and thus benefits from Necromage. If one is a vampire and is quick enough when the blast goes into effect, they can see this unique version of Bane of the Undead, is in fact named 'Meridia's light.' Note that this can affect Serana as she is a Vampire Lord. If the player is a Vampire or Vampire Lord, the explosion will damage and can kill the player if one is on low health, the same way it affects other undead.
In addition, this weapon has a very high number of charges; much higher than most enchanted weapons. Since soul gems restore a fixed number of charges, this weapon will require more than a single grand soul to recharge it fully.
SmithingEdit
The Dawnbreaker can be upgraded with an ebony ingot and the Arcane Blacksmith perk, however, it does not benefit from any Smithing perks. This means that the weapon cannot be improved past flawless quality without boosting the Smithing skill over 100. This can be achieved by using enchanted apparel or blacksmithing potions to fortify Smithing.
UsefulnessEdit
While other swords possess higher damage, the special enchantment Dawnbreaker is imbued with makes it very useful for dealing with draugr, especially when confronted by a group of undead in a small space. High-level enemies, such as a Draugr Deathlord, almost always attack alongside several lower leveled ones that can be killed in a few hits. The resulting explosion instantly kills low-level undead and causes the high-level draugr to flee.
It is also an effective weapon against vampires. In addition to being very vulnerable to fire, they are also undead, therefore they are affected by the fiery explosion. However, if the Dragonborn is a vampire, the resulting explosion will affect them as well. Members of the Dawnguard may want to obtain it, as it will be helpful while fighting vampires, and especially helpful during the siege of Castle Volkihar.
The blast will also trigger by and affect the ash spawns in the Dragonborn DLC location of Solstheim, making it useful against them as well. However, they will resist the fire enchantment, diminishing the weapon's damage potential to that of the actual physical damage it deals.
Duplication exploitEdit
Two copies of Dawnbreaker can be obtained. This is achieved by casting a spell or using a shout with significant kinetic force, such as using Fire Storm, Fireball, Fire Rune, beside the sword altar after defeating Malkoran and his shades. This will cause a copy of Dawnbreaker to fly across the room, while the original still stays where it is. Find and pick up the copy before obtaining the original from the altar, because doing so ends the quest and transports the Dragonborn outside the dungeon. This appears to work on all versions, but is inconsistent and not guaranteed.

- Bring Meridia's Beacon to the Statue to Meridia.
- Replace the Beacon.
- Guide Meridia's Light through the temple.
- Destroy Malkoran.
- Retrieve Dawnbreaker.
Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
The Beacon of Light[edit]
The Lady of Infinite Energies, Meridia, is a Daedric Prince associated with the energies of living things. She is known for her hatred towards the undead of any kind. While the shrines for most other Daedric Princes in Skyrim have been hidden away in remote areas, Meridia has been given an accessible and fully intact shrine with a temple underneath. Recently, a foul darkness desecrated the temple and as such, Meridia is looking for a new champion. There are two ways to begin the journey towards becoming her champion: either find Meridia's Beacon or find the shrine.
Meridia's Beacon Find the Beacon The Beacon can spawn randomly in any boss chest in the game—including those added by Dawnguard and Dragonborn—amounting to over one hundred fifty possible locations. If you happen to find this beacon, as soon as you put it in your inventory you will hear Meridia's voice say, 'A new hand touches the Beacon. Listen. Hear me and obey. A foul darkness has seeped into my temple. A darkness that you will destroy'. Meridia's voice will then go on to give the location of her statue. | Darkness Find the Statue The Statue is located on Mount Kilkreath (map). As you ascend the steps to the Shrine, Meridia's voice will ring out saying, 'A new supplicant approaches. Listen. Hear me and obey. A foul darkness has seeped into my temple. A darkness that you will destroy. But first, you must restore to me my beacon. I shall guide you unto it. Find it and return here. And great shall be your reward.' This will add a marker to your map showing the randomized location of the beacon. |
Meet Meridia[edit]
When you arrive at the shrine with the beacon in hand, the otherworldly voice will echo through the woods once again, saying, 'Look at my temple, lying in ruins. So much for the constancy of mortals, their crafts and their hearts. If they love me not, how can my love reach them?' Place the beacon in the gem pedestal as instructed and a giant ray of light will shoot towards the sky, transporting you high above Skyrim. Meridia will then show herself in her true form—a blinding ball of light—and will speak to you:
'It is time for my splendor to return to Skyrim. But the token of my truth lies buried in the ruins of my once great temple, now tainted by a profane darkness skittering within. The Necromancer Malkoran defiles my shrine with vile corruptions, trapping lost souls left in the wake of this war to do his bidding. Worse still, he uses the power stored within my own token to fuel his foul deeds. I have brought you here, mortal, to be my champion. You will enter my temple, retrieve my artifact, and destroy the defiler. Guide my light through the temple to open the inner sanctum and destroy the defiler.' At this point it is possible to ask about the artifact, but in any case Meridia will send you towards the ground with the words: 'Malkoran has forced the doors shut. But this is my temple, and it responds to my decree. I will send down a ray of light. Guide this light through my temple and its doors will open.'
Ray of Light[edit]
Follow the Light
Light Combined
Once inside the Kilkreath Temple, the profane darkness is palpable everywhere as a thick, black fog oozes through the corridors and a burned desecrated corpse welcomes you. Proceed through the first corridor and notice the locked door on your left. It leads to a handle which opens the adjacent gate and gives access to some minor loot on the other side. Take the eastern path and face the first huge chamber. Meridia's ray of light will shine down through the ceiling onto a pedestal. Activate the pedestal and the beam of light will be directed onto a device placed above the eastern tunnel.
When you follow the light, however, enemies will start to emerge. Dark shadows called corrupted shades will attack in hordes, trying to prevent you from bringing light to the temple. Dispose of them and enter the next chamber, then activate the pedestal to direct Meridia's light further into the depths of the ruin. The eastern path is blocked, so locate the narrow tunnel to the south, dispose of even more shades, and open the wooden door. Follow the tunnel until you see a chest, then take a left and enter yet another huge chamber with multiple paths and levels. The beam of light and the pedestal are located above, so head up the set of stairs to the right, notice the locked door (key required), then take a running jump to the ledge and activate the pedestal. The light will now point in a northern direction, so follow it to find an arcane enchanter and a locked door, once again giving access to a room with minor loot. Backtrack over the bridge where the door now will be unlocked. Go through it for a breath of fresh air.
Dawn is Breaking[edit]
A Look Outside
Once outside, you will notice your efforts have made three pillars light up, but there is still work to do. At the bottom of the stairs leading up to Kilkreath Ruins, to the right, is an expert-locked chest. Locate and enter the door leading to Kilkreath Ruins. Head up the stairs and enter a huge chamber with multiple levels and more corrupted shades. Kill the opponents and start your investigation by heading left into the chamber. The ground level has a few urns and an altar with another desecrated corpse on it, beyond a locked door (key required). Head back to the stairs near the entrance. At the top of the stairs is yet another door that needs a key, so go ahead and activate the first pedestal. This will open the east door behind you. In the first room down the corridor, there is a (spear trapped) door hidden in the shadows on the right. A desecrated corpse lies in the doorway, and the room contains a chest with minor loot. The main passage will lead the way to a lever (beware of the tripwire with swinging blades on your way). Pull the lever and go south over the bridge. Follow it until you reach an intersection, then take a right turn for the Block skill book Battle of Red Mountain.
Backtrack to the intersection and make a running jump to the pedestal. Activate it, see the light shine towards a platform above, then jump back to the intersection. Make a running jump towards the now open western door and follow a tunnel to battle even more shades. You are now in a room with stairs leading up on both sides. The western one leads to a potion on a weight sensitive plate, the eastern one leads to a tunnel. Follow the tunnel and you will reach the last of the lighting pedestals. Activate it and the beams will be complete, opening the door at the ground floor of the previous chamber, leading to Kilkreath Catacombs.
A New Day is Dawning[edit]
Malkoran is waiting
In the catacombs, make your way to the last pedestal and activate it. This will turn on the final beam of light, open the nearby door, and awaken Malkoran, the necromancer responsible for Meridia's wrath. Don't forget to loot the minor treasure chest in the corner, as the door will shut behind you with no turning back. Your journal will update when you reach the final chamber and it is now your objective to kill Malkoran. He is protected by six corrupted shades and is a strong opponent who uses frost spells from a distance, so use the columns to your advantage. When Malkoran is dead you will have to face his shade, so be aware. When all is said and done, Meridia will speak: 'It is done. The defiler is defeated. Take Dawnbreaker from its pedestal.' Loot the room before you retrieve the sword, as you will be transported outside as soon as you take it. When you finally retrieve the powerful sword, everything will turn into light and you will find yourself high above Skyrim once again, facing Meridia: 'Malkoran is vanquished. Skyrim's dead shall remain at rest. This is as it should be. This is because of you. A new day is dawning. And you shall be its herald. Take the mighty Dawnbreaker and with it purge corruption from the dark corners of the world. Wield it in my name, that my influence may grow.' Choose the polite answer and you will get the polite final words from Meridia: 'May the light of certitude guide your efforts.'
Notes[edit]
- If Dragonborn is installed, some radiant locations may be on Solstheim. If you are in Skyrim, you will not receive a quest marker pointing you to the quest location, but must travel to Solstheim first (at which point any quest markers you have to quests in Skyrim will disappear).
- Sometimes speaking to Meridia will not show a map marker for the beacon. This is because the beacon is in an area you do not have access to yet, such as Dawnstar Sanctuary or the Katariah. The beacon still exists and finding it will advance the quest. On PC,

will place you at the chest that contains the beacon. - Even if you are a vampire, Meridia will still recruit you for this quest and declare you her champion, despite her hatred for the undead.
- There are 43 desecrated corpses throughout Kilkreath Ruins that contain large amounts of gold. If you loot them all, you can get an amount of gold in the range of 1075-5375. Some of the desecrated corpses may also contain an Imperial Helmet (Full Face), a heavy armor helmet that you cannot craft.
- It is possible to kill Malkoran and the corrupted shades from the bottom of the staircase into the final chamber. This can help to even the odds of taking on a large number of enemies at once.
- Meridia will teleport you outside the temple for your final dialog with her, and at the end she will deposit you on the platform in front of her statue. Any followers you may have will remain inside the temple. To get them back quickly, go to the door of the temple, enter it, and exit again. When you again appear outside, your follower should have rejoined you. Alternatively, if you have Serana as a follower, fast traveling to Fort Dawnguard will usually cause her to catch up with you.
- A word wall for Elemental Fury can be found just northeast of the base of the stairs up to the statue.
- Although the beacon will spawn in a specific location, that location will be changed the first time you enter an area that has a boss container after you reach level 12. This makes it very likely that you will find the beacon shortly after that time. The original location will only be used if you approach the statue before entering an area with a boss container.
Bugs[edit]
- You can obtain a duplicate Dawnbreaker by knocking it off of its pedestal with an area-of-effect spell during the battle with Malkoran. Retrieve the sword on the ground prior to the sword in the stand to keep both.
- This bug is fixed by version 3.0.13 of the Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch.
- This bug is also fixed by version 4.1.3 of the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch.
- When you hang in the sky during the time you are supposed to be talking to Meridia after acquiring the sword, there's a strong possibility that nothing will happen and you will be left dangling in the sky, unable to complete the quest, or move anywhere.
- When you hang in the sky while talking to Meridia, she may suddenly drop you and you die when you hit the ground before the teleportation triggers.
- This bug is fixed by version 1.3.2 of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch.
- This is often caused by carrying too much weight. Try dropping a few things before taking the sword.
- Walk towards Meridia as soon as she has lifted you into the sky, thereby dropping onto the area at the base of the statue instead of a longer drop further back.
- Skip through the dialogue with her and you will be able to adjust your position before the fall begins. You need to land on the upper area of her pedestal.
- The warp takes some time to activate. Try and position yourself over the lowest altitude position you can to maximize your fall time. The road to the southwest is a good choice.
- In the Windows version, a simpler and foolproof approach is to open the console when the fall starts, click on the background twice, so that no objects are selected, and enter
TCL
(orToggleCollision
), and exit the console. This stops the free-fall. After the teleport, open the console and typeTCL
again.
- If a dragon appears (or is already present) while you are being raised into the sky it will continue to attack, and you will be stuck in the air, as Meridia will not talk while under attack.
- You will need to reload a save game. If it was a random dragon it may not reappear. If it was the dragon from the nearby word wall, you will need to kill it first.
- Killing Malkoran in the hallway before the chamber and/or while he is paralyzed may cause his ghost to fail to spawn, making it impossible to finish the quest. Retry from a savegame, or simply wait for the paralysis to wear off before landing the final blow. ?
- If you have used Auriel's Bow to block out the sun there will be two suns after you give Meridia the stone. ?
- When fighting Malkoran's Shade, using the Unrelenting Force shout or werewolf power attacks will cause the shade to stop fighting. Unfortunately, it also ceases to take damage (the frozen shade can still be damaged by the Fire Breath shout and with Destruction magic). The shade just floats there, preventing the completion of the quest.
- If you have backed Malkoran into a corner at the side of the dais killing him, his Shade may spawn inside the wall where you cannot strike him. You can use Area Effect spells to finish him off, but you cannot loot the Shade.
- Sometimes, when you return Meridia's beacon it will appear on the pedestal, but the Beacon will stay in your inventory forever. ?
- Use the
removeitem 4e4e6
console command to remove the Beacon from your inventory.
- Use the
- Standing in the beam of light will slowly drain your magicka, but if you have an Alteration armor spell active (Oakflesh/Stoneflesh/Ironflesh, etc) then you will gain Alteration skill XP.
- It is possible for the two Meridia speeches to overlap each other.
- This issue has been addressed by version 2.1.1 of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch; a delay has been inserted into the trigger script to prevent this from happening.
- If you have finished the Dark Brotherhood quest line, the quest marker can appear where the boss chest was in the Dawnstar Sanctuary, but the chest will have disappeared. ?
